Cost-Free Ways to Advertise Your Online Business

You started your dream business and created your website. Now all you need is for people to visit your website and you just know you will make money. There are several factors to consider when designing a website, but that is another article. In this article, I will be sharing some ideas with you on how you can advertise your website and not spend a lot of money. The options I provide here are actually cost-free.

When I say cost-free, I am referring to money. There are other costs to consider though. As we get busy time can be more valuable than money and these options will take up some of your time. You must decide what you value more: your time or your money.

Method One: Yahoo Groups
There are several Yahoo Groups that you can join that are designed for posting ads. These can work and I have gotten results in certain areas. It depends on the group and what you are trying to sell.
Pros: It doesn’t cost any money to join these groups and post your ads.
Cons: Everyone who joins these groups is doing so to post ads. Although the unspoken rule is if you post ads you also read the ads others posts, my experience is that most don’t read many ads. Hence, there is no guarantee that anyone is actually reading the ads you post

Method Two: Directories
You can submit your website to the directories. Eventually they will probably post your website in their directory. There is no guarantee though.
Pros: It doesn’t cost any money.
Cons: It can take months for your site to get listed and there is no guarantee it ever will.

Method Three: Write Articles
You can write articles and post them in article directories. When writing an article make sure your name and website are in the author bylines.
Pros: Any time another site’s owner, blog owner, or webmaster uses your article; your link is posted on their website. This is free advertising and free links to your site on their sites.
Cons: It can be time consuming to write articles and they must be related to your product to be effective. I recommend writing an article that stresses the need for your product but does not border on being a sales letter.

Method Four: Start a Blog
Blogs are a good way to advertise your website especially if you are listed in blog directories. When people read your blog, they will see a link to your website. I like to make my blog available by email. The more people see my name and website, they more likely they are to click that link.
Pros: Free blog programs are available such as blogger.com
Cons: You must post regularly if you want to keep your subscribers. Content should be unique and fresh. This means brushing up on your writing skills. Content should also be related to your product to truly be effective.
So that’s four methods you can use that don’t cost any money. There are other ways too, but we can talk about them in another article. Hope you found something in this one that will help you with your business.
